Facts of Kala Patthar:

Branded a coward for abandoning his ship full of 300 passengers, Captain Vijay Pal Singh, is dishonorably discharged, faces public humiliation, and is disowned by his parents. Alone, devastated, and without any aim in life, he takes up work in a distant coal mine and works as a menial laborer just to keep alive - but he is unable to forget nor forgive his cowardice, and welcomes pain as a punishment. The mine run by a businessman named Dhanraj Puri is poorly equipped, with less then sufficient medical supplies, and no facilities for the miners and their families.
